Its kinda sad to see it happen, but it is a huge incentive to make it better when we get to Australia.
My 4 IBM Netfinity 5000 servers (shown bottom of pic) cost me £750 from eBay a few years ago - I payed extra to have their memory and processors upgraded so each server had a total of 2 x 650Mhz Processors and 1GB of memory in each.
I was hoping to sell for a minimum of £350 for everything pictured - but alas, as we have ran out of time for selling up and f00king off - I have now dropped the eBay starting price down to £75.
Search eBay for ‘4 IBM Netfinity, 3 Compaq Proliant, 1 Raid array + More’ before April 10th 2007 to see the listing.
If these servers don’t sell, we will have to take them to the local rubbish dump as there is nowhere else for them to go - such a shame because they are loverly machines and we could really do with as much cash as possible at the moment!
I have been in touch with one of my favorite eBay sellers (Snowdon Computers) as I purchased my Compaq Proliant servers from them and have always been pleased to do business with them - I asked if they were interested in taking the servers off my hands just in case we don’t manage to sell in time but unfortunately, such a great and communicative seller is currently backlogged with stock - they were very helpful though and its a pity we will be too far away to do business with them in the future when we are in Australia!
The next few days will tell if my ‘pride and joy’ servers will sell or not… until then, its fingers crossed!!

SOLD…
The whole lot and extras sold for the starting bid of £75 which is a shame, but on the positive side - they have been sold to a Gentoo user who will be making good use of them!

I think its a real shame that such lovely servers were sold for such a cheap price, they are powerful machines and do a great job!!! Atleast they’ve gone to a good home though and not ended up on the tip - that would of been really heart breaking!!
I know at the end of the day they are just boxes with some electrical stuff inside, but they are a part of our lives - I remember finding it heart breaking having to upgrade from a P1 300Mhz to a PIV - but it did need to be done, but that little computer served me many years of fun and NEVER once went wrong on me. I learned so much whilst using that computer and I know its very slow by today’s standards - but it was part of my life.
Ok, I’m sounding soppy - but I think getting rid of something that makes your life complete is sad.
Atleast they’ve gone to a good home!!
