McEwan’s Champion Ale

Our local Morrisons supermarket sells bottled beer (mix and match £5 for four), so I decided to have a taste of the strongest ales they had in stock.

At 7.3% alcohol by volume, McEwans Champion Ale was indeed the strongest 500ml bottle on their shelves.
(3.7 UK Units per bottle – Please drink responsibly)

This is the ultimate Scottish Ale with a rich, strong flavour yet it is surprisingly smooth to drink. The unique sweet and fruity character of this ale is what makes it the Champion Ale in the McEwans range.

William McEwan opened the Fountain Brewery located in Edinburgh in 1856 and it seems a shame that it finally closed in June 2005, with production of the McEwan’s and Younger’s beers being transferred to the Caledonian Brewery which is owned by Scottish & Newcastle.

Although now brewed by a large multinational company, McEwan’s Champion Ale is an extremely sweet dark beer with a creamy head that is smooth to drink and harbours flavours of toffee and burnt oak.

Being definitely very moreish to drink, especially when chilled, I hope to have a couple more of these again soon.

About Martin Guppy

It was in my younger years, living in Kidderminster, England, UK, I picked up my first home computer - a Sinclair ZX Spectrum+ (1984). From that point on, I haven't been able to shake what seems to be my new found purpose. My 'hobby' has had me spend much of my life being surrounded by computers and gaining valuable knowledge through the art of trial and error. Thus leading me to developing Open Source Projects, such as CRIMP, Whap, Genwulf and maintaining a small cluster of my very own. I know I'm good at what I do. I also know I'm a keen and rapid learner. Should there be prospective information floating out there... I will consume it.
